Representatives of the lowest caste in the prison hierarchy are called offended. Another name for this group of people is the omitted. These are outcasts who have no rights and are despised by other prisoners. By default, those excluded include persistent violators of prison ethics and homosexuals. However, this is not necessary.
Among the representatives of the lower caste there is also a division into subgroups. For example, passive homosexuals are called roosters here. Therefore, the offended person is not necessarily the person who enters into a homosexual relationship. Sometimes this is the one who grossly violated prison regulations. Also “lower” a prisoner who lost at cards, or a newcomer who communicated with the lowered one on equal terms or touched him. Naturally, this happens out of ignorance, but it can leave a negative imprint on the rest of life in the zone.
Below we will talk about who is offended in prison and consider the restrictions that apply to such persons.
Who are those offended in the zone?
The offended are those people who were not forcibly “degraded” and are not homosexuals, but at the same time they are still despised and ignored. This group includes the following prisoners:
- child killers;
- those who touched the things of the comb or the comb itself (the so-called “finished”);
- debtors who lost significant sums at cards;
- persons unable to stand up for themselves and defend their interests.
Even an authoritative prisoner can become offended when he is finished. The prison has strict rules that apply to all prisoners. Therefore, if the authority communicated with the comb on equal terms, it will be “lowered”.
In a number of cases, “respected” prisoners are deliberately subjected to “finishing”. For example, one authority wants to overthrow another. To do this, he persuades the lowered one to approach the “respected” person and touch him. Having received such an order, the crest finds itself in a difficult situation. On the one hand, he can be beaten for disobedience, on the other hand, prison regulations strictly prohibit him from approaching authoritative prisoners. By setting priorities incorrectly, the offended person can be killed.
Thus, both the offended and the downtrodden are representatives of the lowest caste in the prison hierarchy. However, the former were not “put down” through forced sexual contact. Otherwise, representatives of both groups differ little from each other. Their responsibilities and prohibitions are more or less the same.
- Why is it easier for them to live there?
- Well, it’s like you just don’t have to follow anything anymore. You won't go anywhere lower. That is, you just gave up on yourself and went there, you already live, you exist. — When they decide whether to send them to a “harem” or not, is it some kind of court meeting or what even happens? - Well, the decision is still made by the people who have a say in the camp. It’s not always, say, the “looker.” That is, these are just men who have gathered, who are covered by all the actions of this person, and so they make such a decision. But again, there must be a specific person who is responsible for order in the camp, for, say, understanding of the convicts. The “observer”, or the “thief”, or some kind of “statist” - these people must make the final decision. And again, this should remain directly on their conscience. They will make it right or wrong. - If, for example, they made their verdict, but the person does not agree? - In any case, the person does not agree. But here, let’s say, you can’t argue with the laws. That is, here, as it is, so it is. In any case, you can somehow justify yourself. But, as a rule, there is no turning back. There is always a choice. First of all, you can kind of stop it right away. That is, you understand that this will happen and you have to do something. Someone is opening a vein. Someone is breaking through the “hut”. You have some choice. A rare case happens when this all suddenly happened, due to some circumstances. You couldn't do anything. Take a knife and cut those who did this. - If you kill your offenders, will that somehow justify you? “You won’t be able to leave the harem, but at least I won’t pester you anymore.”
Comb - who is it?
Open passive homosexuals are called cocks or combs in the zone. Moreover, it does not matter whether the person practiced homosexual relations before imprisonment or became a victim of sexual violence directly in prison. Once caught in “cocking,” a prisoner will no longer be able to regain his good name.
You can become a comb if you have the following qualities:
- Insolence, insult to authority. There is a strict hierarchy in the prison, which must be adhered to by all prisoners without exception. If a person does not recognize the authority of a superior prisoner, addresses him disrespectfully, provokes conflicts without reason, then he can be “put down.”
- Sloppiness. Prisoners live in the zone in spartan conditions, and therefore neatness and hygiene are especially important here. In shared cells, where sometimes ten people are held, a slovenly person can become quite a problem for the rest of the prisoners. Persons who do not comply with basic hygiene rules are called “pigs” in the zone and are often left out.
- Talkativeness. Newcomers are advised to behave with restraint with fellow inmates, not talking too much about their personal lives. They don’t like “boobs” here. In addition, prison slang differs in many ways from the vocabulary used by ordinary people. For example, among prisoners it is not customary to ask, but you can only inquire. Any careless statement may result in serious sanctions.
- Cowardice, inability to stand up for oneself. When a person enters a cell, prisoners conduct a conversation with him in order to understand the character traits of the newcomer. People who are weak in spirit, cowardly, or sycophants are not welcome here. Such persons quickly become “sixes”, losing respect. Therefore, it is important to show strength of character and earn authority among fellow inmates. Otherwise, life in the zone will be difficult.
- Losing at cards. This may seem like an atrocity, but a person can be “put down” because of a banal gambling debt. In addition, beginners should not agree to play the game. Even if they are offered to play “just like that.” In this case, many newbies agree out of politeness. When a person loses, they tell him that he is now in debt. To avoid getting into such a situation, you should politely refuse any games, be it cards, dominoes or backgammon.
Cockerel prison comb
By the way, many things belonging to those who were omitted are marked with red paint. The process of “transferring” an ordinary prisoner to a “petukhi” has now changed. Previously, a man was simply raped and forced to perform oral sex with one of the thieves.
But after several accidents (when the lowered ones bit off someone else’s dignity), the ritual began to take place differently: the “rooster” is slapped with the genitals on the forehead or lips.
And it happens that thieves simply decide to declare some prisoner a “rooster.” Then the rumor spreads through the prison mail, and the prisoner cannot wash off the stigma.
A prisoner named Dana “In our zone, all the “roosters” were divided into three groups,” continues Sergei. — There were so-called “Forshmak”, who fell out of the general group for some kind of misconduct. For example, I slept near a bucket.
And in fact, the “roosters” did all the dirty work in our zone - they cleaned, took out the trash, scrubbed assholes. There were, however,
A very sad story about prison (warning, unpleasant physiological details)
You can take turns cleaning, or everyone can do it together, in different ways, but they didn’t want to. The officer explodes: why didn’t you tell the employees immediately when it started?
You came here to the pre-trial detention center, the operational officers talked to you, explained what was what, why didn’t you tell the longitudinal officer right away? Ugh! The guy sits, drooping. Well, it’s kind of bad to complain.
Then he remembers: and I didn’t need their mobile phone, so I called a couple of times - they told me that I now owed them money, they forced me to call home and ask my parents for money. I did not want. They insisted. I told them all sorts of stories.
made up. I say: what stories? He is silent. I say: okay. Let's move on to the erotic channel. What happened? Well, that evening the erotic channel was turned on.
Yes, I didn’t watch it at all, but they started teasing me, making all sorts of jokes.
And, in general, they ask - and here you are,
What crests and other lowered ones are prohibited from doing
First of all, roosters should not hide the fact that they belong to a lower caste. This is especially important when communicating with beginners. If a prisoner who arrives in the cell turns to the comb, he must tell him who he is. Persons who hide their low caste status may be severely beaten by other prisoners.
In the zone, there is a term “mashout of the entire human hut.” It means that if the comb comes into contact with a certain group of people, they will automatically become depressed. Therefore, any contact with roosters is suppressed in every possible way.
Combs are powerless people who have only responsibilities. Representatives of this caste are prohibited from the following:

- enter into dialogue with other prisoners;

- approach authorities (you must maintain a minimum distance of three steps);
- sleep on bunks;
- use a common shower, washbasin, go to a common toilet;
- use shared utensils and eat with other prisoners;
- touch your transfer, take food from there.
Peculiarities of life of detainees in the zone
An already joyless existence in harsh prison conditions can become a real hell for the dejected. Let us consider the main features of the life of the abandoned:
- Holes are drilled in cutlery and comb dishes. This is done not only to humiliate those who have been neglected, but also to separate the “scummy” utensils. There is an opinion among prisoners that touching such utensils can cause a decent person to “get killed.”
- The dishes of the offended are placed separately from the common ones. It is washed in a separate sink, which is marked with paint. The same is done with showers and wash basins intended for use by members of the lower caste.
- In some prisons, special stripes are used on the clothes of prisoners. For example, in the Siberian colonies they look like blue stripes.
- Most combs are forcibly branded. Usually the tattoo is placed on the back. The traditional rooster brand looks like a crown with all the card suits. Such an image indicates the prisoner’s readiness to engage in all types of sexual contact. Other identifying marks of combs include tattoos in the form of a rooster, a black dot near the lips or eye, a ring with two red suits on the sides.
- Those who are lowered are allowed to move around the area at the end of the column. Moreover, the ridge should retreat several steps from the prisoner in front. If an authoritative prisoner and a comb find themselves in the corridor at the same time, then the latter should press tightly against the wall, waiting until the “respected” person passes by.
- Since all types of descendants are prohibited from sleeping on bunks, their places are located directly under the bunks or near the “bowl”. In this case, the offended are compared to dogs. Ordinary prisoners are prohibited from coming too close to the “cock’s nest”, as they may end up getting killed. In some colonies, a special “rooster corner” is allocated for those who are prostrate. Sometimes combs even receive a personal supervisor who organizes their work and monitors the implementation of the general routine.
- Combs in prisons do the dirtiest work. We are talking about cleaning showers, toilets, raking garbage pits, etc.
- The rooster has no right to refuse to have sexual intercourse with an authority figure or an ordinary prisoner. However, in modern realities, this rarely happens, since prisoners most often neglect the society of the deprived.
- If the rooster refused to follow the order of another prisoner, he could be severely beaten. Sometimes the injuries received are incompatible with life. It is allowed to beat the offended only with feet or improvised means. It is prohibited to touch them with your hands.
- Most of the crests begin to engage in prostitution in the zone. For their services, the omitted receive cigarettes, sweets, and food. Moreover, not paying the rooster is considered humiliating for other prisoners. If a prisoner uses the service and does not pay, he himself may subsequently be “dismissed.”
- Homosexual prisoners engaged in prostitution often take female names. At the same time, they keep their male surnames.
Responsibilities of Roosters
The list of responsibilities of roosters includes the following:
- sewer cleaning;
- cleaning toilets;
- cleaning workshops, etc.
When a new person appears in the cell, those released are obliged to inform him of their status. This is done so that the newcomer does not unknowingly ruin his reputation. Concealing such information is punishable by collective beating. To simplify identification, special tattoos are applied to the bodies of roosters.
Initially, the crests' main duty was to sexually satisfy other prisoners. The omitted could not refuse to provide such services. Otherwise he was beaten. However, in modern prisons, morals have changed a little, and combs "serve" inmates at will.
According to general rules, after sexual intercourse with a rooster, another prisoner is obliged to give him a gift. Given this, many members of the caste engage in prostitution, often receiving generous rewards.
People in maximum security colonies are most tolerant of roosters. Here combs are beaten only in cases of gross violations of established prohibitions. Moreover, you cannot hit such prisoners with your hands; only kicks are permissible. They are considered the most humiliating.
The worst treatment for combs is in places of deprivation of liberty where minors are kept.
Why sit in a basin
It's no secret that special laws apply in Russian prisons. People here live “according to concepts” and have a clear understanding of good and evil. As for the rituals in the zone, they may also be incomprehensible to most citizens.
For example, a prisoner may be tested for “leakyness.” To do this, he is asked to sit in a basin filled with cold water. The pre-trial prisoner lowers his pants. If bubbles appear in the water, the person is considered “broken.”
Today, such rituals are more like stories told among prisoners. In practice, they can only be used in juvenile colonies, where fairly strict laws still prevail today.
Other members of the lower caste
The caste of outcasts and despised by all includes the following groups of prisoners:
- Divers or gas sniffers. They can also be called gas-lowered. These are the individuals who perform the most humiliating work in the cell. Their task is to clean the air in the chamber after the emission of gases. The diver inhales the intestinal gases of another prisoner, then runs to the window and releases them outside. If the diver performs his duties poorly, the diver may be beaten. For example, a prisoner may be punished if, after all his manipulations, an unpleasant odor remains in the cell. Most often, weak and weak-willed prisoners, as well as those with major offenses, become divers.
- Chushki. This is the name given to prisoners who do not take care of personal hygiene. Often these are people suffering from mental and somatic disorders. Prisoners treat pigs with disdain, mock and mock them, and assign them to do dirty work. Such prisoners are beaten if they ignore requests to wash themselves.
- Sixes. These are individuals who try to please everyone. Excessive helpfulness is not held in high esteem in the zone, and they don’t like sycophants here. Nevertheless, they are actively used. Therefore, having become a six, a person will be forced to unquestioningly follow the orders of other prisoners. If he refuses, he may be beaten or “put down.”
- Sweatshirts. These are card debtors. If a person cannot pay off his debt in a timely manner, he is given a humiliating nickname. In addition, prisoners can be “released” for such offenses.
- Woolen or wool. This is the name given to those prisoners who systematically violate the rules of prison ethics. Any former authority who has flagrantly violated the thieves' law can become wool. We are talking about beating another prisoner, rape without reason, etc.
- Shelupen. These are weak-willed, depressed and whiny prisoners. Because of their lability, they often become objects of ridicule, mockery and humiliation. Shelupen is severely beaten for the slightest mistake.
Thus, almost every prisoner can become offended and depressed. To avoid problems, it is necessary to adhere to prison ethics while maintaining strength of character.
